As Principal of Liscarroll NS, I welcome you to our school website. We hope it gives you an insight into the life of our school. Liscarroll NS is a rural co-educational with 5 Special classes . It is a welcoming, happy school, where we all work together for the benefit of the pupils who attend here. The well being and academic progress of every pupil is a priority.
As a staff, we strive to develop an open, positive relationship with both pupils and parents . We value and look after the needs of every child and aim to ensure that all of our pupils enjoy their time here. We recognise that learning is a lifelong process, and believe that the foundation we lay with children today, will help them to develop their talents to their full potential and to grow into confident caring members of the community . Mutual respect for each other and regard for each other’s viewpoints within our school community permeates the wide range of activities that are carried out within the school. We believe that a child learns best through participation and active learning in a supportive environment. This involves partnership with the parents of our school.
Through this website we hope to give you an insight into all of the events occurring during and after school in Liscarroll NS. It showcases the talents and achievements of our wonderful pupils. In addition, our website outlines our school’s policies, practices and procedures while also informing you about new developments in our school.

Gymnastics
Mike, School Fitness gymnastics coach started gymnastics classes in the school this week. All classes in the school spent a half and hour session with Mike. He put the pupils through their paces with balances, stretches and lots of fun and laughter. They had a great time. We can't wait for Mike to come again next week. Thanks to the Parents Association for subsidising the cost of the gymnastics class.

Playground Leaders
As part of the Active School initiative, we have Playground Leaders timetabled for every break for Lios Cúram and the younger classes. Boys and girls from 5th & 6th classes volunteer to be Playground Leaders. They are doing a wonderful job, organising and leading playtime on the yard.
They distribute equipment from the PE store and place it back again after break. Some Playground lead and play games while others are dance leaders.
Our pupils love the variety and attention they get from the senior classes. It also creates great friendships and good examples of how we can all work together to make Liscarroll National School a happy and caring learning environment.
Assemblies
All pupils and staff gather together in the halla twice a month for updates regarding what is going on in the school. They learn Irish seanfhocail and greetings, celebrate achievements, learn songs for the choir. Also there is a class in focus section where one class gets to perform for the whole school. Mrs Murphy leads the assemblies.

Healthy Eating Committee 2025/26
The Healthy Eating Committee reconvened today.
There are new members representing each class level.
We reviewed our school policy.
The one recommendation from the committee today is - that a reminder needed to be given to all the children and parents in the school that there is ONLY HEALTHY FOOD allowed for lunches.
However there is an exception on a Friday. On Friday's children are allowed ONE treat.
We will have another meeting shortly to see if this is being adhered to.
Well done to all the committee for getting involved.
Well done Girls in Sciath na Scol Final
Well done to our girls football team who played Kildorrery in the Sciath na Scol B1 Final on Wednesday 22nd of October in Carrigoon Mallow at 11.30am. Kildorrery got off to a great start and led at half time by 2-4 to no score. However, the Liscarroll girls rallied round in the second half and led by 1 point with eight minutes to go. The score was 2-5 to 2-4. Unfortunatley for us, Kildorrery got their second wind and ran out winners on a scoreline of 2-9 to 2-5. The girls played their hearts out in front of their parents, grandparents and 5th & 6th class. They returned to a guard of honour held by the whole school and Mrs Vaughan, principal, presented them with their runner up medals.
We are very proud of this wonderful group of girls.
Active School Committee 2025/26
We have elected our Active School Committee for this year. They have been very busy attending meetings, organising Yard Leaders for breaktime and sorting new PE equipment that the Parents Association bought for us.
Our Active School Committee were busy unpacking and organising this new equipment in the PE store for use by all classes.
Our boys played in the James Fitzgerald Memorial Cup today in CBS Charleville. They went to the semi final and were beaten, but qualified for the Plate Final which they won. They returned to the school to a heroes welcome. We are all very proud of this wonderful bunch of lads.
Sincere thanks to our local GAA club 'The Gaels' for donating €300 worth of GAA equipment to our school. We were delighted with the sliotars, footballs and ball pump they purchased from the proceeds of their Poc Fada competition. This equipment will be put to good use when training for upcoming Sciath na Scol matches and Rebel Óg blitzes for our boys & girls. Thanks to Karen Butler for organising and sourcing the equipment. Pictured here are some of our Gaels players accepting the equipment on behalf of the school.
SNA Appreciation Day 2025
We were delighted to celebrate SNA Appreciation on the 25th of September with all our wonderful SNAs. They do tremendous work caring for and helping students and staff in our school. On the day, the teachers brought in treats and balloons for them.
We would like to thank them for all their hard work and dedication. In Liscarroll NS we work as a team.
Team work makes the dream work!!
Cycle Right Programme
The Cycle Right Programme has begun with 5th class. ‘CYCLE RIGHT’ will teach our pupils all the rules of cycling on the road. CYCLE RIGHT is the National Standard for Cycle Training and provides practical cycle safety and skills training to promote competent and confident cyclists. It is designed to give cyclists the knowledge and skills to move safely through the road system, an environment shared with other road users. They will put the theory into practice during this course. CYCLE RIGHT is produced and supported by the Department of Transport, the Road Safety Authority and Cycling Ireland in conjunction with Cork Sports Partnership and is partly funded by Cork County Council.
