We are delighted to introduce our enthusiastic new Green Schools Committee, composed of dedicated pupils and staff who are eager to drive positive change. This year, our focus is sharper than ever on reducing our waste and cutting down on energy wastage across the school.

Repair, Don't Replace! Workshop a Success at Liscarroll NS!
At Liscarroll, we are passionate about teaching life-long skills and promoting a culture of sustainability. This ethos is at the heart of our "Repair, Don't Replace!" initiative, which encourages children to mend clothes in need of attention, rather than simply throwing them away and buying new ones.
We were delighted to host a fantastic workshop on Friday, February 6th. Local seamstress, Mrs Margaret Heffernan, gave an inspiring demonstration, bringing various items back to life! She skilfully mended torn soccer shorts, fixed tears on coat sleeves, took up sleeves that were too long, repaired holes in jumpers, and even restored a woolly hat. It was a wonderful display of how simple mending can save clothes from the bin.
In addition, our 6th class pupils gained an essential life skill when Mrs Maudie Twomey and Mrs Caitriona O' Flynn taught them how to sew on a button.
We encourage all of our families to embrace this valuable lesson: Repair, Don't Replace!
WEE Recycling:
To promote responsible disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment, we encourage pupils and staff to make use of our WEE battery recycling bins (the blue boxes) located near the front door.
Biodiversity Garden Area: Mrs. Vaughan is busy transforming an area of our school grounds into a vibrant Bio-Diversity Garden. This space will serve as an outdoor classroom, teaching pupils about native plants, insects, and wildlife. We are focusing on creating a habitat that supports local pollinators by planting native wildflowers and building insect hotels. This garden will allow our pupils to engage directly with nature and understand the importance of biodiversity in our local ecosystem.
We have worked so hard to achieve our Green Flag award! Please continue to help us maintain our high standards of green awareness and contribute to a healthier environment for all.
