This two-year child-led programme enhances the creative potential of every pupil by stimulating curiosity. The programme is led by the Arts Council in partnership with the Department of Education, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport & Media and Creative Ireland. Creative Schools is part of the Creative Youth Plan.
Painting on Loan
As part of the Creative Schools initiative, we are delighted to have this painting entitled 'Migrants + Refugees' on loan from the Glucksman Gallery in Cork. This piece of art was painted by Chris Judge.
The artwork is part of a touring exhibition called Viewpoints: Children's Rights in Imaginary Spaces. It is onshort term loan as part of the Art Library, an initiative fronm the Glucksman that makes artwork available to schools, communities and healthcare settings across Ireland.
The painting will spend time in each class in the school and the teachers will lead lessons based on it. The children will learn that the UN Convention of rights of the Child recognises that children who are refugees or seeking asylum have the right to special protection, and the state has an obligation to cooperate with competent organisations providing such protection and assistance.
